• Jack Miller will start from pole position for the first time in what is his 50th Grand Prix in the premier class. This is the first pole position for an Australian rider since Phillip Island 2012, when Casey Stoner won it in Australia and also the first for an "independent" Ducati rider.

• Miller's pole is the second in a row for a driver of an "independent" team, in Qatar it was Zarco who won it

• Dani Pedrosa is the best classified Honda rider, second on the grid. Last year he crashed while fighting with Zarco for fourth place.

• Zarco qualified with the third fastest time and is the best Yamaha rider on the grid; this is his sixth front row.

• Tito Rabat will open the second row, it is his best qualifying result in the premier class.

• Álex Rins will start from fifth place, his best qualifying result in the premier class.

• Marc Márquez will not start from pole position in Argentina for the first time since the Termas de Río Hondo circuit entered the calendar in 2014. Last year he crashed after leading the first three laps.

• Aleix Espargaró will open the third row of the grid, it is his best qualifying result since Japan 2017, when he started fourth.

• The world championship leader, Andrea Dovizioso, qualified with the eighth fastest time; it is his worst qualifying result since Valencia 2017. He will try to become the first Ducati rider to win the first two races of a season.

• Maverick Viñales, who won in Argentina last year, completes the third row of the grid.

• The last eleven MotoGP races have been won by Ducati or Honda riders: Andrea Dovizioso (5), Marc Márquez (5) and Dani Pedrosa (1).

• Jack Miller, Xavi Vierge and Tony Arbolino will start from pole for the first time in their classes. This is the first time this has happened in any class since Qatar 2017, when Maverick Viñales, Franco Morbidelli and Jorge Martín took poles.
