MotoGP – Estoril – Randy De Puniet: “I'm quite satisfied”

Randy De Puniet took home an excellent 6th place today in the Portuguese GP which took place at 13pm local time on the Estoril post. The last round of the calendar took place in the dry after the torrential rain of the last few days but a very strong wind coming from the nearby Atlantic Ocean put the riders to the test. After yesterday's qualifying was canceled due to adverse weather conditions, De Puniet started from 00th place on the grid and moved up to 8th place at the end of the first lap. The Frenchman astride the RC5V had the right pace to stay in the leading group but a couple of braking errors at the first corner penalized him in the race for the podium. Randy and the Team will be back on track next weekend at the Valencia circuit for the last round of the calendar.

De Puniet: “I'm quite satisfied with today's result because it's my best placing after the bad fracture. The weather was kind to us today but it was a gamble for everyone since we weren't able to test in the dry. I started very well and from the first laps I was very fast and consistent. I made a couple of mistakes braking at the first corner and went wide, losing 3 seconds. It's a shame because without those outings I'm sure that the podium was within our reach. Unfortunately I still struggle when braking and downshifting after the broken leg but I'm happy with this result and I thank the team for giving me an excellent bike again this weekend.”
