Anthony West finished the Portuguese GP in twelfth position, 54.562 seconds after Rossi's arrival. Although the bike seemed to work well in the first laps and the rider was gaining positions, a grip problem forced him to change his riding style, which did not bring the desired results. Like his teammate Randy de Puniet, he hopes to put a terrible weekend behind him once he arrives in Japan.

“I felt very comfortable in the first laps and the bike was going well: – said Anthony – everything worked and made me believe I could pass everyone in front of me. I continued to gain positions but suddenly I had some sliding problems on the front. There were a few moments where I was struggling, so I changed my riding style a little to make more use of the rear tire, but it didn't help much and just made the wheel spin. I fought all weekend here but I'm looking forward to Motegi and I'm sure we can put these problems to rest.”
