MotoGP – Donington Park – Disappointing race for Pedrosa
Dani Pedrosa had started from third position like a rocket and on the second lap he had already overtaken Edwards, thus taking the lead and even making people think that he could go in a repeat of what had been his race here at Donington last year. Instead, after a few laps, he suddenly began to lose positions, eventually finding himself eighth at the finish line. The cause of this was not a technical problem or anything else, but an incorrect choice of tyres, which were too soft, which crumbled as soon as the track began to dry. A disappointing result that he really didn't want, because Casey won again, and the top of the world rankings moved further away.
“At the start of the race things were going quite well and I managed to stay in first position without too many problems. After a few laps the circuit started to dry and I realized that I had chosen a rear tire that was too soft for these conditions and I wasn't able to maintain the pace. I tried to stay with De Puniet and battled with Barros in the final laps, but I had very little rear traction and unfortunately I couldn't pass him. It was really a disappointing race for us, even though we had promising performances during practice and qualifying, which is positive. It's a shame because, since Casey won again, the gap in the standings has widened a lot. We have to get back to fighting quickly in the next race.”
