Loris Capirossi started from the back, from the fifth row to be precise, and his start wasn't exactly one of those catapults. But his bike was very good, and the tires worked as they should, even if the track was drying out, and from the second half of the race the new father began to push hard, harder and harder, until he managed to grab the fifth position. In short, everything was going well, until a crash a few laps from the end threw him and his Ducati Desmosedici GP7 off the track. Now we need to look ahead, to the next race in Assen in just 6 days.

“Today I was very disappointed with how it ended because before the crash I felt really good, really confident. I didn't have a great start but I started pushing and attacking and managed to catch Hopkins in fifth place. My pace was very good and when I saw that I was lapping a second better than Valentino (Rossi) and Chris (Vermeulen) who were in front of me at the time, I thought I'd go and catch them. Unfortunately I lost the front in the first corner and my race ended there. The tires were going great, even though we had chosen the softer type, they would have made it to the end without any problems. It's a shame but in any case I'm happy with my race pace and that my feeling with the bike continues to improve. If we continue like this in Assen I will be able to have a good race.”
