MotoGP Austria, FP2: Dovizioso takes the Ducati to the top, Rossi out of the Top Ten

GP Austria MotoGP Free Practice 2 – Andrea Dovizioso set the best time in the second free practice session of the MotoGP class at the Red Bull Ring, scene of the Austrian Grand Prix, eleventh stage of the 2017 MotoGP championship.

The rider from Forlì, on track with the Desmosedici GP17 with the new fairing, set a time of 1:24.046, a time that allowed him to beat Maverick Vinales, riding the Yamaha M0.234, third in Brno by 1s.

Third place went to Dani Pedrosa's Honda, who brought the Repsol Team Honda RC213V 0.428s from the top.

Ducati is therefore in the lead, ahead of Yamaha and Honda Factory, with the Yamaha Sat of Johann Zarco's Team Tech 3 occupying fourth position, immediately ahead of the second official Ducati, that of the Majorcan Jorge Lorenzo.

The #99, the first to take to the track already from Brno with the new Ducati fairing, is ahead of his compatriot and world championship leader Marc Marquez, Cal Crutchlow's Team LCR Honda and Aleix Espargarò's Aprilia.

Closing out the Top Ten are Scott Redding on the Ducati GP16 of Team Pramac and Alvaro Bautista on the Ducati of Team Aspar.

Still outside the Top Ten is Valentino Rossi, still twelfth (behind Pol Espargarò's KTM) and who in case of rain in FP3 will be forced to compete in Q1 in order to access the final phase of qualifying. Rossi finished 0.837s behind Dovizioso's Ducati and around six tenths behind team-mate Vinales.

Fourteenth time for Danilo Petrucci, preceded by Loris Baz and ahead of Jonas Folger and Andrea Iannone.
