Nicky Hayden started the Dutch Grand Prix in the best possible way, the seventh stage of the 2012 world championship. The Ducati rider ended the first day with the third fastest time, just 102 thousandths behind his compatriot and leader of the day Ben Spies. His GP12 seems to be going well on the circuit that has hosted the world championship since 1949, and he has the microphone.

“I really like Assen and today the weather was perfect too. The team worked well and we came up with a couple of good ideas. The bike was nice to ride and everything went smoothly. This morning we used the hard tire for the whole session and, in the last outing, I improved my time. In the afternoon we didn't make any major changes because the bike is working very well at the moment but tomorrow we will try to improve in the changes of direction and we will continue to work to take a step forward also over the race distance."
