Andrea Iannone MotoGP 2016 Aragon Team Ducati – Andrea Iannone will not race the Aragon Grand Prix, the fourteenth stage of the 2016 world championship.

The "painful" decision came after the Ducati rider had taken part in the morning session of the first day of free practice. The pain in his back was too strong, which would not allow the #29 to be competitive throughout the race. Iannone fractured his D3 vertebra in a fall during FP1 at Misano. The Abruzzo rider himself explained the choice not to race.

“Unfortunately I won't be taking part in this race and therefore after skipping Misano I will also skip this one in Aragon. The decision was very painful, but I think it is the right thing, given that I could make the situation worse. This morning I had been very competitive and we had worked very well with the team, but as the laps went by the pain increased and I wouldn't be able to be competitive over the course of a race. I'm stopping to be able to get back to top form for the three non-European trips."

This morning you didn't use painkillers, why didn't you think about using them for FP2?

“With painkillers I would have lost sensitivity and riding these motorbikes which reach speeds of up to 340 km/h here would only be dangerous. I repeat, it is a painful decision, but I believe it is the right one. Most likely I could have run, but I would have only made the situation worse.”

Iannone's place will be taken by Michele Pirro, who had already replaced the Abruzzo rider at Misano.
