MotoGP | Gp Jerez Race: Show duel, Bagnaia masterpiece, beats Marc Marquez
A race to be remembered by the two-time world champion who achieved a "screaming" overtaking and perfect race conduct
MotoGP GP Spain Jerez Race – Extraordinary masterpiece by Pecco Bagnaia, who in Jerez, theater of the Spanish Grand Prix, beat an equally impressive Marc Marquez at home, the latter author of the pole.
At the start the eight-time world champion was the fastest, followed by Jorge Martin, Marco Bezzecchi and Pecco Bagnaia. With a sensational double overtaking with a braking at the limit at the dry-sack Bagnaia had moved into second position, overtaking Marco Bezzecchi and Jorge Martin.
Martin then took the lead and Bagnaia followed him like a shadow, until the Pramac Racing rider lost control of his Desmosedici, ending up in the gravel. With Bagnaia in the lead there was a great fight for second position between Bezzecchi and Marc Marquez, with the Spaniard passing the VR12 Racing Team rider from Rimini with 46 laps to go.
From there the chase began for the #93 of Gresini Racing, who with fast laps had brought himself close to Bagnaia, passing him, but then immediately overtaken by the two-time Ducati world champion. A duel that continued until the checkered flag, with the #1 passing the finish line first with just 0.372s on the former Honda rider, who achieved his first podium with the Ducati. For Bagnaia it is the 20th success in MotoGP, 30th in his career.
Excellent third time for Marco Bezzecchi, who finally returns to the podium after a difficult start to the season with the Ducati GP 23. The "Bez" finished with a wide margin over the fourth classified, Alex Marquez, who preceded him with the second Desmosedici of Gresini Racing Enea Bastianini (Ducati Factory), Brad Binder (KTM Factory) and Fabio di Giannantonio (Ducati VR46 Racing Team).
Closing out the Top Ten are Miguel Oliveira, best Aprilia rider (Team Trackhouse), Maverick Vinales (Aprilia, never fighting for victory after the domination in Austin, ed.) and rookie Pedro Acosta, with the KTM Team GASGAS Tech3 rider who after a bad start and also a contact with Johann Zarco limited the damage, especially after the scary crash in the warm up.
Also scoring points were Raul Fernandez with the second Aprilia Trackhouse, Joan Mir with the best Honda, Alex Rins with the Yamaha, Takaaki Nakagami with the Honda LCR and Fabio Quartararo, with the second Yamaha. Luca Marini with the second Honda Repsol finished last, 43.323 from the top.
Dani Pedrosa, Aleix Espargarò, Johann Zarco, Jack Miller and Franco Morbidelli fell. In the Championship Martin sees his lead reduced to 17 points over Bagnaia, while Enea Bastianini is 22 points behind, one less than Pedro Acosta, fourth at 23 points.
