Statements by Maverick Vinales Day 1 Australian GP Phillip Island MotoGP 2023

“This year the track has a lot of potholes, the Moto3 class riders I spoke to also confirmed this to me. It was a good day, we are strong both on the flying lap and on the pace, tomorrow we have an opportunity and we are ready to give our best. We struggle at turn 12, we have little traction and we need to understand if the problem triggers turn 11. Seeing the great traction we have at turns 2 and 6 it's as if we arrived with the tire running out. If we can improve on T4 we will have a good opportunity to do a great job this weekend. Soft rubber? I think everyone will use it in the Sprint race, but it will have to be managed very well, after 5/6 laps the temperature rises a lot. The wind doesn't help with this aerodynamics, it's really dangerous, we'll talk about it in the Safety Commission.”

It should be noted that given the weather forecast, the Sprint race and the "long" race have been reversed, with the latter taking place on Saturday, with the Sprint Race on Sunday.
