MotoGP Catalan GP Race – The Catalan Grand Prix, ninth stage of the 2022 MotoGP held on the Montmelò circuit in Barcelona, was decided at the first corner after the start.

Takaaki Nakagami (Honda LCR) was in fact the author of a "strike" which in a single shot took out himself (also risking getting hurt, ed.), Alex Rins and our Pecco Bagnaia, who with the Ducati was one of the favorites for the race together with Fabio Quartararo and Aleix Espargarò (Aprilia).

The Japanese braked too hard, losing control of his Honda RC213V and his helmet hit Bagnaia's rear wheel violently, causing him to fall, while Rins was mowed down by the #30's bike.

An elimination race also for the other Italian Ducati riders. Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati Mooney VR46 Racing Team) crashed as did Enea Bastianini and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Gresini Racing riders), the latter two within a lap of each other.

Fabio Quartararo dominated the race, who after a "missile" start took the lead and never relinquished it until the checkered flag.

The reigning Yamaha champion achieved his second victory of the season after that of Portimao, a victory that brings him +22 over Aleix Espargarò, who made an unforgivable mistake, celebrating on the penultimate lap convinced that the race was over and that he he finished incredibly fifth when he had second place secured.

A scene that hasn't been seen for some time (Pier Francesco Chili in the 250cc class in 1992 comes to mind, ed.), and which gives a double podium to the Ducati Pramac of Jorge Martin and Johann Zarco. Excellent podium for Martin, who will have surgery on his hand for carpal tunnel. Fourth at the finish line was Joan Mir (Suzuki), ahead of Espargarò, an excellent Luca Marini (Ducati Mooney VR46 Racing Team), Maverick Vinales (Aprilia) and Brad Binder (KTM),

Also in the Top Ten are Miguel Oliveira (KTM) and Alex Marquez. In the points, rookies Remy Gardner (KTM Tech 3) and Darryn Binder (Yamaha WithU RNF) finished ahead of Franco Morbidelli (Yamaha Factory), Jack Miller (Ducati) and KTM Tech 3 rookie Raul Fernandez. Andrea Dovizioso (Yamaha WithU RNF) retired.

Returning to the world championship ranking, said Quartararo in the lead with +22 on Aleix Espargarò, it should be noted that the "zero" of Bastianini and Bagnaia brings them to -53 and -66 points from the Frenchman. A detachment that is starting to be heavy.
