MotoGP | GP Assen FP2: weather protagonist, Vinales on top, bad fall for Marquez
Both official Ducatis and Valentino Rossi are out of virtual Q2
MotoGP Dutch GP Assen Free Practice 2 – The second free practice session of the MotoGP class Dutch Grand Prix, ninth stage of the 2021 MotoGP championship, was characterized by light rain which annoyed the riders.
Of note, after about ten minutes from the start, a very bad high-side by Marc Marquez, thrown into the air by his Honda RC213V at turn 10.
A bad fall, which fortunately for the Honda rider does not seem to have had any consequences. The eight-time world champion actually returned to the pits to explain the fall to his men.
The rain then increased and up to that point the fastest was Maverick Vinales, who in just a few laps closed on the time that had taken him to the top of the standings in FP1.
Behind the #12 Yamaha, fresh from the terrible Sachsenring weekend, were Miguel Oliveira with the KTM, Fabio Quartararo with the second Yamaha M1 Factory and Marc Marquez, who set the time before the crash.
Fifth time for Joan Mir (Suzuki), followed by Johann Zarco's Ducati Pramac and team-mate Alex Rins. The Espargarò brothers also access virtual Q2 with the times recorded in FP1, with Aleix (Aprilia) ahead of Pol (Honda) and Danilo Petrucci (KTM Tech 3).
Weather permitting, tomorrow morning's FP3 will be crucial to try to gain direct access to Q2. At the moment among the big names excluded are "Pecco" Bagnaia and Jack Miller with the official Ducatis, Valentino Rossi (Yamaha Petronas) and the Ducati rookies Enea Bastianini (Avintia), Luca Marini (Sky VR46 Avintia) and Jorge Martin (Pramac).
