MotoGP Coronavirus Covid-19 – It's official, the Italian MotoGP Grand Prix which should have been held at Mugello, initially postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has been canceled from the 2020 MotoGP calendar.

The news was given by FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports who regret the cancellation. The Tuscan track hosted its first event in 1976 and became a fixture on the calendar in 1991 and will not host a Grand Prix for the first time in almost 30 years.

Statements Paolo Poli, CEO of the Mugello circuit, cancellation of the 2020 Italian Grand Prix

“Despite the common efforts made to find a practical solution, the impossibility of organizing an event open to spectators, as well as the difficulties that have arisen from this exceptional situation, have not allowed us to find a new date for the Italian Grand Prix . I would like to thank all our fans who have supported and encouraged us over these months and we invite them to return to Mugello in 2021 for what will be, as always, one of the most iconic events of the season.”

Statements Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO Dorna Sports cancellation of the 2020 Italian Grand Prix

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of Mugello. Unfortunately, we were unable to find a solution to the logistical and operational issues resulting from the pandemic and the rearranged calendar to allow us to visit the venue this season. It is a great loss, as Mugello is one of the most beautiful circuits in the world and we are very proud that it is and is the home of the Italian Grand Prix. On behalf of Dorna, I would like to thank the fans for their understanding and patience as we wait for the situation to improve. We can't wait to return to Mugello next season for another fantastic weekend of racing.”
