“Going through Q1 didn't weigh on me in terms of stress but it's an advantage, in the end when you pass you have more speed, you have more momentum. It's true that you have one less tire, but there is more speed and that's an advantage. As for going fast with this type of tyre, it's not at all instinctive to do so. You have to drive in a very different way than the last three years and it was a way that worked. We are using a very different bike compared to the last three years. In the past we worked in one direction to use the front end more because there was little grip at the rear, while now there is a lot of grip.”

“I accepted a bet with my friends, if I had been leading the Championship after Misano 1 I would have had to change the name on my suit. I didn't think I could be first and I hadn't done anything to deserve it, then Quartararo fell and I found myself at the top of the world championship and then they forced me to change my name and we did it in a joking and relaxed tone."
