MotoGP Coronavirus Covid-19 – Dorna, the company that holds the rights to the MotoGP and Superbike championships, made it known through a statement that despite the coronavirus pandemic, competing in the 2020 MotoGP season and the production-derived championship is a priority.

We remind you that to date only the races of the Moto3 and Moto2 classes have been held at the Losail International Circuit, given that teams and riders were already present in Qatar for the winter tests. Below is Dorna's press release.

Dorna MotoGP 2020 Coronavirus Statements

“The coronavirus pandemic is ongoing and has already led to revisions to the 2020 calendar for the MotoGP World Championship, including the postponement or rescheduling of a number of events. In light of the ongoing uncertainty, Dorna Sports would like to reiterate that racing is our top priority in 2020.

At Dorna, we remain in ongoing discussions with the FIM, IRTA, MSMA and Grand Prix promoters as we monitor the situation closely, keeping the communication and support channels between each pillar of our sport as open as possible. The aim of every party involved is to start racing again as soon as it is safe to do so.

Our main focus has always been and will remain in attempting to stage the 2020 season with as many Grands Prix as possible, concluding by the 2020 calendar year. However, we will always act in line with government health and safety advice and of the competent health authorities.

If the pandemic continues to put our lives and sport on hold for longer than any of us are able to anticipate and travel restrictions remain in place, only as a last resort would Dorna Sports consider discussing the cancellation of the 2020 season with the FIM, IRTA and MSMA.

Our number one goal for WorldSBK is to try and race the 2020 season with as many rounds as possible once it is safe to do so.

The priority of all parties involved is to race, safely and bring our fans more of what they love: motorcycle racing.”
