2020 MotoGP regulations The Grand Prix Commission composed of Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, president), Paul Duparc (FIM), Hervé Poncharal (IRTA) and Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA), in the presence of Jorge Viegas (FIM president), Corrado Cecchinelli (technological director), Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna) and Mike Trimby (IRTA, secretary of the meeting) in a video conference link on 15 April 2020 resolved the following decisions.

These changes are intended to reduce costs incurred by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, while maintaining fairness and equality in order to preserve the entertainment value of the sport and the integrity of the competition.

Technical regulation

MotoGP category

At the moment, all manufacturers who do not have concessions have homologated the specifications of their engines for the entire season. Manufacturers are authorized to homologate different specifications for drivers and independent teams.

Until now, manufacturers with concessions have not been restricted and can change their specifications throughout the year.

Furthermore, all manufacturers were authorized to present two aerodynamic fairings for each rider per season; the same ones they presented in Qatar.

The Race Commission approves the following changes, with immediate effect
2020 Season

There will be no updates or homologated parts during 2020. This decision will be valid for all manufacturers, with and without concessions.

2021 Season

Both those who have concessions and those who do not will start the 2021 season using the parts approved in March 2020. Then, for the rest of 2021, the normal update rules will apply for the rest of the season, as required by current legislation, which means no engine evolution will be allowed and only one aerodynamic update per driver for all manufacturers.

Moto2 category

The organizers will provide all riders in the category with the same 765cc Triumph engine.

Until now, the only limitation in terms of technical allocations was the granting of only one Aero Body update per manufacturer.

The Race Commission approves the following changes with immediate effect
Aero Body

The current Aero Bodies homologated in 2020 relating to the manufacturers' chassis presented in Qatar in 2020, together with any versions homologated in 2019, will be frozen until the end of the 2021 season. Other updates will not be permitted.

Frame and swingarm

Each manufacturer can present current or antique frames or swingarms for approval. This design will be frozen until the end of the 2021 season, without the possibility of making new specifications.

Each team will be asked to declare a maximum of two specifications for each chassis and swingarm per rider for each homologated chassis. Each pilot engaged in replacing a colleague will be required to use the parts declared by the pilot being replaced.

Moto3 category

Currently in the Moto3 category, manufacturers must provide all their riders with the same complete bike. Until now, drivers could choose between two gear ratios per season.

The Race Commission approves the following changes with immediate effect. The specification of the bike, as declared by each manufacturer at the 2020 Qatar Grand Prix, will be frozen for the 2020 and 2021 seasons, meaning that further upgrades will not be granted anywhere: chassis, swingarm, engine, aerodynamic extensions , gearbox or devices that change the height of the motorcycle.

The Race Commission has also approved the number of engines each driver will be authorized to use in the event that changes are made to the 202 and 2021 season calendars. The dates will be published as provided in the regulations.
