MotoGP Coronavirus Covid-19 – The MotoGP, like Formula 1 and all other sports, is still at a standstill due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna, a company that holds both the MotoGP and Superbike rights, interviewed by the Radioestadio del Motor program on Onda Cero (and reported by Marca.com) spoke about a possible start of the MotoGP in Brno, in August as an optimistic hypothesis.

Statements Carmelo Ezpeleta CEO Dorna MotoGP 2020

“The first thing is to end this pandemic so everyone can stay healthy. Subsequently we can make calendars and see when we will be able to move and travel where we need to run."

Statements Carmelo Ezpeleta CEO Dorna First Scenarios and Hypotheses MotoGP 2020

“The most optimistic scenario would be to start traveling in mid-July. On April 27th I will speak with the organizers of the German GP, but in my opinion it would already be optimistic to race in Brno and Austria in August. As for Finland we must say that the circuit is not yet ready, even if the organizers have yet to communicate this.”

Statements Carmelo Ezpeleta CEO Dorna Second Scenario and Hypothesis MotoGP 2020

“The second scenario involves 10/12 races that would start after the summer, we would go where the laws of the various countries would allow events with or without an audience, between October and December. In that case it could be a MotoGP of just 8 races."

Statements Carmelo Ezpeleta CEO Dorna Third Scenario and Hypothesis MotoGP 2020

“The worst case scenario would be to race in November. You would choose 2 or 3 circuits and do everything there. Probably even without an audience. Of course, we also contemplate what would happen if there was no World Cup. We would be stupid if we didn't think about it. It would be a severe economic blow for Dorna, but we are not moving towards that scenario at the moment. Valencia is the last race on the calendar, but it would only be possible in the best of scenarios. We have already discussed it with them, if we finish in December we will try to race in a warmer country. We're not ruling anything out, but in my opinion I hope to be able to start in August."
