Romano Fenati achieved the best time on the first day of the official Moto3 tests in Jerez de la Frontera. The Sky Racing Team by VR46 rider put his KTM ahead of everything with a time of 1:47.242, achieved in the third session.

Behind him the excellent Karel Hanika, Champion of the 2013 Red Bull Rookies Cup, trailing by just 106 thousandths, while in third place we find the latter's team-mate, the Australian Jack Miller, still riding the Team's KTM Red Bull Ajo.

Danny Kent with the KTM "disguised" as a Husqvarna is fourth and ahead of our Niccolò Antonelli, riding the KTM of the GO&FUN Moto3 Junior Team. His gap is just over three tenths from the top. He is followed by Isaac Vinales with the KTM of Team Calvo, our Francesco Bagnaia, with the second KTM of the Sky Racing Team by VR46 and the first Honda, that of the Spaniard Efren Vazquez.

Closing out the Top Ten are Jakub Kornfeil (with Team Calvo's second KTM) and Alex Marquez (Honda Team Estrella Galicia 0,0), who finishes just under half a second from the top. Immediately behind him is team-mate Alex Rins.

The other Italians are Alessandro Tonucci 17th (Mahindra CIP Moto3), Enea Bastianini 26th (KTM Junior Team GO&FUN Moto3), Matteo Ferrari 29th and Andrea Locatelli 30th, the latter two riders of the San Carlo Team Italia, riding the Mahindra .

And well done Fenati, with KTMs the Italians do better.
However, the unknown remains. Honda is now only half a second away, even a little bit less, between eighth and eleventh position. If Honda starts working as it knows how, the gap is likely to be closed more and more and it is not certain that more updates arrive for the race in Qatar. They have at least halved the gap to the best KTMs.
