Moto3 Qatar, Qualifying: Alex Rins scores the first pole of the year, Fenati is 8th

The first pole position of the 2014 Moto3 class world championship went to Alex Rins, rider of Team Estrella Galicia 0,0. The Spanish rider achieved it with a time of 2:05.973, immediately taking Honda to the top, having officially entered Moto3 this year and immediately setting things straight.

For Rins this is the tenth pole position achieved in this category, the first as mentioned astride the Honda. Second position for his team-mate Alex Marquez, 152 thousandths behind.

Followed by three KTMs, the dominant bikes last year, but which in 2014 will have to deal with the Japanese manufacturer. The fastest of the Austrian manufacturer's riders was the Australian Jack Miller, 392 thousandths off the top. Followed by the two riders of Team Calvo, Jakub Kornfeil and Isaac Vinales, cousin of Maverick, 2013 world champion in this category and this year in Moto2 with Team Pons.

Sixth time for the Husqvarna of the British Danny Kent, who is ahead of the Honda of his compatriot John McPhee. Closing out the Top Ten are our Romano Fenati, Niccolò Antonelli (who will start in the third row) and Francesco Bagnaia, all riding KTMs, separated from the top by more than a second.

Perhaps more could have been expected from Fenati, the fastest of all three free practice sessions, but everything could change in the race tomorrow. Twenty-first time instead for Enea Bastianini, with the second bike of the GO&FUN Moto3 Junior Team.

The other Italians are Matteo Ferrari 26th, Alessandro Tonucci 28th and Andrea Locatelli 31st. Ana Carrasco, the only representative of the fairer sex on the track, finished 25th fastest.
