Luis Salom achieved the best time in the first free practice session of the Moto3 class at Phillip Island, the third to last stage of the 2013 world championship. The world championship leader in fact stopped the clock at a time of 1:38.332, a time of just 45 thousandths better than the one scored by the German Kalex KTM Jonas Folger.

Third time for the Malaysian Zulfahmi Khairuddin (returned after the forced stop in Sepang), fourth for Isaac Vinales, fifth for our Niccolò Antonelli (FTR Honda Team Gresini) and sixth for Maverick Vinales, on Team Calvo's KTM.

Alex Rins, who is chasing his compatriot Luis Salom by 14 points in the championship, is seventh ahead of home rider Jack Miller, our Romano Fenati (ninth with the FTR Honda of San Carlo Team Italia) and team-mate Alex Marquez, riding to the second KTM of Team Estrella Galicia 0.0.

The other Italians are Lorenzo Baldassarri twelfth, Francesco Bagnaia twenty-ninth and Matteo Ferrari thirtieth. Twenty-third time for Ana Carrasco, the only woman on the track, who had scored her first world championship point in Sepang.
