Moto3 | Austrian GP Qualifying: Fenati's return, the rider from Ascoli wins pole
Masia and McPhee complete the front row
Moto3 GP Austria Red Bull Ring Qualifying – Romano Fenati wins the pole of the Moto3 class Austrian Grand Prix, eleventh stage of the 2019 MotoGP.
After passing the Q1 trap, the Snipers team driver recorded the best performance, stopping the clock at 1:36.460. The rider from Ascoli returns to pole after two years (Silverstone 2017), after spending a year in Moto2 and the events at Misano which cost him relegation to the cadet category.
Behind the Italian Ayumu Sasaki (Petronas) set the second fastest time, but the Japanese driver was penalized with 12 positions on the grid, he will start 13th, for irresponsible driving during free practice. Jaume Masia and John McPhee then move to the front row.
Ai Ogura set the fifth fastest time, but he too was penalized with 12 positions on the grid. Kaito Toba will therefore open the second row, ahead of Tatsuki Suzuki (SIC58 Squadra Corse) and Tony Arbolino (Snipers).
Lorenzo Dalla Porta will start from seventh place ahead of Raul Fernandez and Celestino Vietti (Sky Racing Team VR46), who crashed at the start of the session. Niccolò Antonelli (SIC58 Squadra Corse) completes the top ten.
Andrea Migno, after passing the Q1 trap, will start from 14th place.
The following did not pass the Q1 trap: Stefano Nepa (Avintia)18, Dennis Foggia (Sky Racing Team V46) and Riccardo Rossi (Gresini) who will start respectively in: 18th, 19th and 23rd place.
