Moto2 Sepang, FP1: Luthi first in the Malaysian rain, Pasini is sixth
The Swiss rider preceded Schrotter and Marquez
GP Malaysia Moto2 Free Practice 1 – The Moto2 class had to deal with the heavy Malaysian rain that fell in Sepang. The session started in the dry, but shortly afterwards the red flag was shown due to the crashes of Julian Simon, Edgar Pons, Sam Lowes and Joahnn Zarco.
A few minutes later a real downpour arrived and the riders took to the track with rain tires to ride in conditions that they could also find in the race.
The fastest in these conditions was Thomas Luthi, who stopped the clock at a time of 2:10.121.
Behind the Swiss rider we find the German Marcel Schrotter, 0.444s behind and the Spaniard Alex Marquez, who in turn precedes his compatriot Axel Pons and the home rider Hafizh Syahrin.
Sixth and seventh times for our Mattia Pasini and Lorenzo Baldassarri, both on Kalex, the former from Team Italtrans, the latter from Forward Racing.
The Top Ten is rounded off by Xavier Simeon with the Speed Up, Jonas Folger with the Kalex and Xavi Vierge with the Tech 3.
Good eleventh time for Remy Gardner, while Luca Marini recorded the fourteenth time and Simone Corsi (who crashed without consequences) the fifteenth.
World championship leader Johann Zarco preferred not to take risks as did Franco Morbidelli.
