Moto2 Phillip Island, Qualifying: Pole position for “Polyccio” Espargarò
Alex de Angelis (Speed Up NGM Mobile) is the best of us with the fourth fastest time
Pol Espargarò took pole position in the Moto2 class Australian Grand Prix, the third to last stage of the 2013 world championship. The Team Pons rider achieved it with a time of 1:32.530, a time only ten thousandths better than that scored by his team-mate Esteve Rabat, who fell without physical consequences. In the front row with them is the Suter of Jordi Torres' Team Aspar, winner of this year's German GP.
Alex de Angelis from San Marino will start in the second row with the fourth fastest time, riding the Speed Up of Team NGM Mobile. Alongside him will be the Swiss Thomas Luthi and the Finnish Mika Kallio.
Seventh time and first place on the front row for Sandro Cortese (who also crashed without physical damage). The 2012 Moto3 champion who lapped in 1:32.893 is ahead of Nico Terol and our Mattia Pasini, riding the second Speed Up of the Tean NGM Mobile.
World championship leader Scott Redding is only tenth, but what worries his team and his fans is not so much his position, but the condition of his wrist, violently beaten in a fall triggered by a high-side. His condition is currently being evaluated at the medical center.
Simone Corsi is instead fourteenth and preceded by the Belgian Xavier Simeon, the Frenchman Johann Zarco and the Swiss Dominique Aegerter. It should be noted that during the session the red flag was shown for Thitipong Warokorn's crash, which fortunately turned out to be less serious than it was at the beginning. He has problems with his shoulder and left arm.
