Moto2 Phillip Island, Free Practice 2: Alex De Angelis in the lead

Alex De Angelis ended the second free practice session of the Moto2 class in the lead at Phillip Island, a track that saw him dominate the last edition of the Australian Grand Prix. The San Marino rider of Team JiR achieved the best time with a time of 1'34"466, putting his Motobi ahead of Andrea Iannone's Suter and the German Stefan Bradl's Kalex, 102 and 114 thousandths behind respectively.

Claudio Corti also had an excellent session, absent at Motegi for fear of radiation from the Fukushima nuclear power plant and fourth today. The Team Italtrans driver who lapped in 1'34"600 was behind the British Scott Redding (Suter of the Marc VDS Racing Team) and Bradley Smith, on Tech3.

Mika Kallio also had a good session, who after setting the third fastest time in Free Practice 1, finished seventh ahead of the Swiss from Team Interwetten Thomas Luthi and our Mattia Pasini, on the FTR of Ioda Racing. The Japanese Team Gresini player Yuki Takahashi closes the Top Ten.

We now come to world championship leader Marc Marquez, author of two falls in the morning session. The second was very bloody; the Spaniard in fact hit the bike of Rattapark Wilairot who was much slower than him on the return lap. The two were thrown into the air and their motorbikes were destroyed. The one who fared the worst was the Thai who was taken to hospital for checks on his shoulder and back, while Marquez only suffered a cut above his left eye. Only the Spaniard was therefore able to take part in Free Practice 2, finishing 17th at 825 from the top. A gap that can be recovered even if the start of the Australian weekend was very traumatic.
