MotoGP 2015 British GP FP1 – Marc Marquez was the fastest in Free Practice 1 of the British Grand Prix, twelfth stage of the 2015 world championship.

The reigning Honda champion clocked 2:03.111, a time that allowed him to beat his Yamaha compatriot Jorge Lorenzo, currently the virtual leader of the standings, by 0.388s. The Majorcan is tied on points with Valentino Rossi, but can boast five victories against the three of the Pesaro rider.

Valentino Rossi himself set the third fastest time in this first session, 0.856s behind Marquez. A good start for the seven-time MotoGP world champion, who is called upon to put in a great performance on a circuit where he has not achieved any prestigious results in past years, unlike Marquez and Lorenzo, who have dominated in recent years.

The Ducatis of Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso (who asked to return to the chassis from the beginning of the season, essentially that of Qatar), are in fourth and fifth position, respectively 0.961s and 1.004s behind Marquez's Honda.

Good performance by home rider Scott Redding, sixth with the Honda Factory. The Marc VDS rider precedes the Yamaha of Bradley Smith (best satellite rider in the championship), the Honda of Dani Pedrosa, the Yamaha of Pol Espargarò and the Honda of Cal Crutchlow, fresh from his contract renewal with the LCR Honda Team.

Danilo Petrucci's performance was very positive, in his last race with the GP14. The Pramac Racing rider from Terni (eleventh time ahead of the Suzuki of rookie Maverick Vinales), will in fact have the GP14.2 available from Misano already in the "hands" of his team-mate Yonny Hernandez, fourteenth today.

Twentieth time for Iodaracing's Alex de Angelis from San Marino, while Claudio Corti with the Forward Racing Yamaha Open closes the list of times.

Marquez is in really good shape, at the start of the session the Yamahas were doing well in T1 and T2 and worse in T3 and T4 and vice versa Marquez lost in T1 and T2 and gained a lot in T3 and T4.

As the laps went by, both Marquez, Lorenzo and Rossi improved in the areas where they struggled the most, but Marquez was able to do it much better.

Rossi is the fastest in T1 but just ahead of Marc and Lorenzo, while Marquez is the fastest in the other 3 sectors, in T2 he goes slightly faster than Lorenzo and Rossi.

But in T3 he gains quite as much on Rossi as he does on Lorenzo, and then he gains a tenth more in T4 on both Lorenzo and Rossi.

Rossi and Lorenzo are closer than Rossi's current time shows, with the Bestlaps you can see that Rossi is only 150 thousandths behind Lorenzo. Rossi manages to do a T4 about the same as Lorenzo's, the problem is that he wasn't able to do it in his best time.

We'll see how the situation evolves, for now Marc is the one in the best position then Lorenzo and Rossi arrive who are quite close for now. Then all the others who from 4th or fifth onwards are already taking at least a second a lap from Marc and half a second a lap from the Yamahas.
