Randy De Puniet closed the first free practice session in Qatar, on the Losail circuit, scene of the first race of the 2009 world championship, with the tenth best time. The French rider of Team LCR suffered like his other colleagues due to the length of the session which this year is 45 minutes and also the fact of only having to try one session compared to the two last year; in fact it was tested both in the morning and in the afternoon. However he did a good job with the team on the chassis and tires ahead of the race. The word is up to him.

“All in all it went quite well even if the session was a bit short. However, we did a good job on both the chassis and the tyres. Honestly, I've already chosen the tire for the race. I also did an eight-lap long run at the end of the session and the feeling was good. The 10th position does not reflect our potential; on the last lap I lost some time behind Hayden but I could have finished in the top six. I think we started the season on the right foot.”
