Marco Melandri: 'I made a small mistake on the fifth lap….Probably, I braked a little too late'….

Here is the comment from Marco Melandri after the British GP:

It was another frustrating race for MotoGP rookie Marco
Melandri who had started this day full of optimism, following the
his best result in qualifying in the premier class. The driver of Team Fortuna
Yamaha had started from third position just 0.186 seconds from pole, however
end his race prematurely. The 250cc World Champion
he said that in qualifying here at Donington Park he had the best feeling
with his YZR-M1 with more than 220 horsepower all season and couldn't see
the time to be able to fight for the podium in the 30 laps of the race. But its purpose
week took a turn for the worse on lap five.

Melandri, who won the 250cc race here last year, is
sprinted off the grid like a veteran, entering the first corner in fourth gear
position and then moved into third position a few corners later. The
twenty-year-old remained among the group of the first four that broke away
from the pursuers, but bad luck struck when Melandri lost
the front entering the Fogarty Esses chicane. The Honda trio made up
Gibernau then managed to distance himself from Valentino Rossi, Max Biaggi and Sete
further from the pursuers to the three finished the race in first, second
and third place respectively.

“I made a small mistake on the fifth lap,” said the man from Ravenna.
“I had some problems driving with a full tank because
the rear seemed to lose stability. Probably, I braked a
a little too late and I think the front wheel may have touched the line
white. I'm very sad because I was very fast and I really thought about
to have a chance. What can I say? - I'm this way
sad. But at least I can say that now I know I have the skills
to do very well in the race.”
