Surprisingly, Hiroshi Aoyama obtained, by just 8 thousandths of a second over Hector Barbera, the pole position of the San Marino Grand Prix and the Riviera di Rimini on the Misnao Adriatico track. The Japanese world leader managed a good lap in 1'38.867 and will thus start from first position on the grid ahead of Barbera and the two Italians expected at Misano, Marco Simoncelli and Mattia Pasini in third and fourth position respectively.

Only in the second row was Alvaro Bautista with the eighth fastest time, who was once again preceded by teammate Mike Di Meglio, Alex Debon and Hector Faubel seventh on another Honda.

The other Italians are in ninth position with Roberto Locatelli, while Alex Baldolini is 15th with Raffaele De Rosa only 16th after a positive free practice session in the morning.

The 250 race will start tomorrow at 12pm between the 15 class race and the MotoGP, scheduled for 125pm.
