125cc Phillip Island, Warm Up: Cortese is the fastest
The 125 class riders encountered unstable weather during the warm up of the Australian Grand Prix. The rain that fell left traces of damp on the track and with a temperature of around 18 degrees on the asphalt, many initially preferred to use rain tyres.
Someone risked using slicks but the times recorded in qualifying remained a long way off. In these conditions the fastest on the track was the German Sandro Cortese. The German driver of Intact-Racing Team Germany lapped in 1'41"408, preceding the world championship leader Nico Terol by 1"127.
Third time for poleman Johann Zarco; the Team Avant-AirAsia-Ajo driver placed behind the Spaniard Adrian Martin, the Finnish Niklas Ajo (Team TT Motion Events Racing), the British Danny Webb (Mahindra Racing), Luis Salom (RW Racing GP) and Louis Rossi (Matteoni Racing). Closing out the Top Ten are Marcel Schrotter (Mahindra Racing) and Joan Perello (Matteoni Racing).
First of the Italian riders is Alessandro Tonucci, fifteenth on the Aprilia of Team Italia FMI. Followed by Manuel Tatasciore 23rd and “Gigio” Morciano 30th.
