First success for Pol Espargaro in the 125 world championship. The Derbi driver managed to achieve this victory after a great race which saw him fight for a long time with a group of five riders, reduced to three on the last lap thanks to an error by Nicolas Terol , who slipped to fourth position due to a crash ahead of Julian Simon, his rival for the championship.

Espargaro managed to control Bradley Smith, second, and Simone Corsi, who came third at the finish line on his second podium of the season after the one at Donington Park. The Roman driver of Fontana Racing is the first Italian well placed in the standings: Andrea Iannone went out on the last lap after some problems at the start, Lorenzo Savadori was forced to retire, Lorenzo Zanetti, Luca Vitali and Luca Marconi closed out from the points area.

The Indianapolis race is a reward for Pol Espargaro, with his first victory, and for Julian Simon, who in fifth position managed to hold onto the top of the standings: Terol, who finished ahead of him, gained only 2 points, remaining 52.5 points behind with Bradley Smith third at 53.5, while Andrea Iannone with this zero is now out of the running.
