After a three-week break, the world championship riders finally returned to the track for the third stage of 2011 on the Estoril circuit. As usual, the first to run were those of the eighth of a litre, eighth of a liter which after two races sees Nico Terol leading the world championship with 50 points (the result of two victories) against the 31 and 30 points of the two Germans Jonas Folger and Sandro Cortese. Terol himself set the best time in the first free practice session with a time of 1'47"746, inflicting very heavy gaps on his opponents. In fact, the second and third classified (Zarco and Faubel respectively) are more than a second behind the Spaniard of Team Bankia Aspar.

In fourth position we find the German Sandro Cortese who on the Aprilia of Team Intact-Racing Team Germany precedes the Spaniard of Derbi Vazquez and his compatriot Jonas Folger. Good performance by Alberto Moncayo, seventh on the Aprilia of Team Andalucia Banca Civica; the Spaniard precedes the home rider Miguel Oliveira and his compatriots Sergio Gadea and Luis Salom.

The first of the Italians is Simone Grotzkyj with the eleventh time while the two Team Italia drivers Luigi Morciano and Alessandro Tonucci are in nineteenth and twentieth position respectively. Thirtieth time instead for the Neapolitan Francesco Mauriello riding the Aprilia of WTR-Ten10 racing.
