Finally, it must be said finally!! Mattia Pasini managed to win at Donington Park against everything and everyone in a season that until now had only seen him protagonist of sensational breakdowns of his Aprilia RSA. The Team Polaris World rider from Rimini dominated the race after a quiet start, taking his first victory of the year ahead of Tomoyoshi Koyama's KTM and the Aprilia RSA of new world championship leader Hector Faubel who leads with 3 points on the Hungarian Talmacsi who retired today. Now a new championship begins for the Rimini rider which could give him new satisfaction as early as next Saturday in Assen. A bitter race however for Simone Corsi who started with intermediate slicks which however in the end didn't pay off and thanks to first a collision with De Rosa with an excursion on the grass at the chicane and then a fall he finished in tenth position. Raffaele De Rosa's race was good, the Neapolitan finished eighth behind the Englishman from Team Honda Repsol Bradley Smith and ahead of the Spaniard Pablo Nieto.

Race report

The riders of the 125 class are preparing to compete in the last race of the day at Donington Park, scene of the eighth round of the 2007 world championship. Mattia Pasini will start from pole and with him on the front row Simone Corsi, Tomoyoshi Koyama and the world ranking leader Gabor Talmacsi. Everyone ready, turn on, turn off the traffic lights... go!! Koyama takes the lead and laps ahead of Corsi and Pasini. Pasini takes the lead ahead of Corsi and Koyama, Faubel, Nieto, Masbou, Gadea, Talmacsi and De Rosa. De Rosa moves to eighth position. Corsi attacks Pasini and Faubel and takes the lead. Second lap, Corsi in the lead ahead of Faubel, Koyama and Pasini. There was a brawl in these first laps with Pasini in difficulty attacked by both Nieto and Gadea.
Faubel tries to attack Corsi at the chicane but the Roman doesn't give up and the two make contact without consequences. Meanwhile, Frenchman Masbou withdraws.

The track is almost dry (the 250 and the MotoGP raced in the wet but during the end of the MotoGP the track gradually dried out) and the riders lowered their lap times. The first seven drivers are within one second and four tenths. At the fifth lap Corsi is still in the lead ahead of Gadea, Koyama, Faubel, Pasini, De Rosa and di Meglio. Corsi and Pesek are the only two riders to have mounted sculpted slicks and so with the dry track there is concern that they won't be able to finish the race. The brawl continues, and Faubel is now at the controls followed by Corsi while at the chicane the drivers pair up and De Rosa passes Di Meglio.

Meanwhile, Van Den Berg crashed but returned to the track. It makes up for it under Pasini who takes the lead while the group of leaders is now made up of nine riders all within 1,5 seconds. There are continuous overtakings with Corsi taking the lead again while Espargaro falls but returns to the track. Beautiful race, exciting with overtaking that can no longer be counted!! Stefano Bianco also crashes, but the driver suffers no physical consequences and returns to the pits. Pasini meanwhile sets the fastest lap with fourteen laps to go and tries to get ahead. We have now reached the halfway point of the race, Pasini leads ahead of Faubel, Koyama, Corsi, De Rosa, Talmacsi, Olive and Gadea.

Pasini and Faubel move forward followed by Koyama while De Rosa and Corsi touch each other who unfortunately go out onto the grass and lose ground. Rabat, Corsi and Krummenacher then fall with the latter managing to get back on track. Corsi is now twelfth ahead of Lorenzo Zanetti and Andrea Iannone. Pasini in the meantime put two seconds and two tenths of a gap on Faubel and Koyama. Pasini is ahead, having not yet won any race this year, also thanks to the "fragility" of his Aprilia RSA, while Koyama and Faubel battle it out for the second step of the podium. Meanwhile, world championship leader Gabor Talmacsi stops and will almost certainly lose the lead in the championship. The last lap begins, in Pasini's pits all the spells are made, Pasini makes it, for him the first victory of the year and tears in the pits of Team Polaris World. Behind the Rimini Koyama who collects important points after the victory of Barcelona and Hector Faubel. Followed by Gadea, Olive, Di Meglio, Smith, De Rosa, Nieto, Corsi and Zanetti. The appointment then is in Assen, where the ninth round of the 2007 world championship will take place next Saturday.

The "hot" declarations of the protagonists

Mattia Pasini, 1th: “This nightmare never ended!! We have suffered the pains of hell! Luckily everything went well here, I thank Aprilia, the team and everyone who was close to me."

Hector Faubel, 3nd: “Unfortunately we had a bike trimmed for wet conditions but it didn't pay off. Plus we also had the gear ratios too short and so it wasn't an easy race. We were convinced it was raining but it wasn't. However, I am happy because I reached the top of the championship.”
