The first round of the 125cc world championship will take place on the Losail track, Qatar: the 28 riders at the start will compete in 18 laps under the lights of the floodlights spread across the entire surface of the circuit.

At the ready start of the race, poleman Nico Terol started very well from the first spot on the grid, followed by Sandro Cortese, Efren Vazquez and Hector Faubel, who already in the first moments managed to advance Gadea and Vazquez, taking third position. Meanwhile Nico Terol begins to take a large advantage over his opponents (already around 3 seconds).

The tussle always remains between second and third position: on the second lap Faubel also manages to advance Cortese, but then the Italian-German responds to the overtaking and regains second place. The Spaniard Vazquez also enters the fight, thus engaging in a three-way battle for the podium, while Martin, the third rider from the same team as Terol, falls. With ten laps to go the pace between the three becomes really fast, but Jonas Folger and Sergio Gadea are also added to the group of challengers. The challenge for second place therefore becomes five.

Plot twist with five laps to go: in the group fighting for the podium, Hector Faubel "grips" and loses contact with the other challengers in the attempt to restart. Sandro Cortese, therefore, tries to take advantage of it, pushing as much as possible to extend his lead and bring home the best possible result. Meanwhile Terol leads by a good 12 seconds.

Nico Terol, therefore, wins the first seasonal event in Qatar undisturbed, while Sandro Cortese finishes second. However, the battle for the podium continues towards the end, with Sergio Gadea and Efren Vazquez engaged in a series of overtaking, but Vazquez runs wide on the curb, giving Gadea third place.

The first Italian in the ranking is Simone Grotzky Giorgi, 14th, while Morciano and Tonucci of the Italia FMI team place 20th and 22nd.
