Superbikes | Laguna Seca Round, FP2: Davies surprisingly sets the best time

Free practice Friday for the Geico US Round at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca ends with Chaz Davies (ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati) leading the pack, ahead of Jonathan Rea and teammate Alvaro Bautista.

The Welshman's season so far has not been positive at all, especially when compared to the other Ducati rider, but today's performance suggests that Davies will be one of the happy ones in tomorrow's Superpole and in the races.

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) however missed the best time in FP2 by just 0.032 seconds, and is aiming to increase his lead in the standings before the summer break. It will be a good battle.

His teammate, Leon Haslam made significant improvements during FP2, finishing fifth fastest.

Another rider who improved his benchmarks from the first to the second session was Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team), before his bike broke down with three minutes left in the session leaving him fourth in the timesheets.

His teammate Markus Reiterberger, absent in England due to flu, found himself 16th on his debut at Laguna Seca.

Three riders from independent teams are in the top 10: the first is Loris Baz (Ten Kate Racing – Yamaha) in sixth position placing the first Yamaha in the standings; seventh time for Toprak Razgatlioglu (Turkish Puccetti Racing), while Jordi Torres (Team Pedercini Racing) completes the top 10.

Eighth position for Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Team), protagonist of a calm session which allowed him to lay the foundations to face the race weekend in the best possible way. His teammate, Michael van der Mark, finished FP2 with the 12th time but was ninth in the combined.

It was also a good day for Sandro Cortese (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK), making his debut on this track, finishing in 11th position. his first day on the Californian track.
