Troy Corser set the fastest time in the first Superbike free practice session at Misano. The BMW rider who lapped in 1'37.362 preceded Michel Fabrizio's Ducati and Leon Haslam's Suzuki. BMW in the lead then followed by Ducati, Suzuki and James Toseland's Yamaha. The Sheffied rider preceded the excellent Luca Scassa who was fourth on the Ducati of the Supersonic Racing Team ahead of his brand mate Noriyuki Haga.

Cal Crutchlow's Yamaha was seventh, putting the Team Althea Ducatis of Shane Byrne and Carlos Checa behind them. Only twelfth was the world championship leader Max Biaggi who lapped in 1'38.282 on his Aprilia.
