Superbike: Many regrets for Camier after Donington
The English driver squanders a possible top-5 finish.
For Leon Camier, the one he just experienced at Donington Park was certainly not a Sunday of racing to remember, especially in light of the good performances shown in the previous days.
The English driver had in fact shown an excellent feeling aboard his official F4 RR, even finishing the first free practice session at the top, but, after ninth place in the first race, the crash in race 2 deprived him of the possibility of fight for a top five finish.
“I think I pushed too much, that was the problem” – he said Leon Camier – “I'm really disappointed and angry. It was my first mistake of the season and I feel bad because I didn't want to disappoint anyone. I had a really good start and in the first laps I was really competitive. Even if I maintained that pace, I don't think I would have been able to stay with Chaz (Davies) but I wouldn't have finished so far. With less fuel our bike performs better, which is why I'm usually very competitive at the end.
I think there were the makings of a good race, but I was pushing too hard to stay with Chaz and that wasn't the case. I made a small mistake, forcing it into the chicane and I bounced too much on the curb. I'm really devastated but, looking on the bright side, we were fighting with riders who have already won this year, so from that point of view it went well. We did our best, perhaps even a little too much on my part."
