Superbike Misano, Race 1: Jonathan Rea wins in the sprint

Race dominated by the two Kawasakis with Van Der Mark completing the podium. Bad luck for Ducati: Davies is involved in an accident at the start and Giugliano crashes

Superbike, Pirelli Riviera di Rimini Round, Race 1. At the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli Jonathan Rea took the victory in Race 1 at the end of a good battle with his teammate Tom Sykes who followed him very closely until the checkered flag, giving the public a sprint finish.

More bad luck at Ducati, especially for Chaz Davies who remains involved, a few meters from the start, in a contact between Fores and Lorenzo Savadori, who gets the worst of it and has to abandon the race: an uphill race for him who found himself having to recover from 22nd place and finish fourth, at the foot of the podium.
Davide Giugliano, on the other hand, starts well and remains close to Rea and Sykes, even if he is forced to drive to the limit to do so and therefore crashes during the first laps: getting back on the bike he finishes 14th.

With the exit of the Ducatis, the Kawasaki duo makes a gap behind them and manages to set their own pace, with Jonathan Rea's impressive pace, setting qualifying laps with both riders with an average of 4/5 tenths on opponents.

The podium is completed by a radiant, and he has every reason to be, Michael Van der Mark who finally returns to the top three after some dull races which had relegated him to medium/low ranking positions: for him a consistent race and a good injection of confidence for tomorrow.
Teammate Nicky Hayden, however, was unlucky as he crashed during the first laps and had to abandon the race, a shame for him even if yesterday he said he was worried about his race pace, which was not as effective as he expected.

Fourth place, as we said, for Chaz Davies: an excellent result if you think about how the race went, a finish however that leaves a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth because it was seen that the Welshman had the pace and speed to keep up with the Kawasakis, and instead now sees the gap in the standings widening not only from Rea but also from Sykes, now firmly second.
Good fifth place for Jordi Torres, author of a good, consistent race, who finished ahead of teammate Markus Reiterberger, also author of a good comeback, starting from eleventh place.
Great satisfaction for Niccolò Canepa who also took advantage of the many crashes seen today and finished seventh, thanks to a good race pace, built during free practice.
His Yamaha teammate for this weekend, Alex Lowes, instead crashes a few laps from the end while he was fourth and finishes in 13th place.
Eighth was an unlucky Leon Camier, also involved in the contact between Fores and Savadori: his comeback, like Davies, started from 22nd position.
Ninth and tenth place for Roman Ramos and Anthony West who give precious points to their respective teams, Pedercini Racing and GoEleven Kawasaki.

Disappointment instead in the garage of the Iodaracing Aprilia team: not only did Savadori leave the scene innocently after a few metres, not actually taking part in the race, but Alex De Angelis suffered problems with his RSV4 before the start and started last, the same thing will happen too unfortunately in tomorrow's race.

We'll see what happens tomorrow in Race 2, start set for 13pm.

Disappointment for Giuliano, shame for Davies, he would have risked the victory. Disappointment from Sykes too, he could have tried at least once.

Given the pace of the last laps, Chaz probably could have fought for the win :'( really unlucky..

Davide, I think Ducati needs to start thinking seriously about changing him, he's fast but he crashes every other race, and it's not good for the world championship... Too bad for Aprilia too, they're unlucky :(

    Hopefully good for today...go Ducati
