Superbike Miller: Carlos Checa returns to win on one of his favorite tracks
Second place for Marco Melandri, third place for Max Biaggi after a splendid duel with Jonathan Rea
The reigning world champion Carlos Checa, after the difficulties of the last few races, returns to win and does so on one of his favorite tracks, that of Miller Motor Park.
After studying his rivals for a few laps, and after suffering numerous attacks on the straight, Checa managed to pull away to take the victory, the fiftieth of the Ducarti 1098 and 1198 era.
Marco Melandri, second at the finish line, did everything possible to keep up with the Spaniard but could do nothing.
Third position was doubtful until the last lap because Max Biaggi and Jonathan Rea they fought until the last corner to take third place.
Fourth place for Eugene Laverty followed by Jakub Smrz, Chaz Davies, Tom Sykes and Michel Fabrizio.
Checa and Smrz were the only Ducati riders to finish in the top ten positions: while in qualifying the Borgo Panigale bikes seemed to have an advantage, in the race the straight caused them quite a few difficulties. A further rise in temperatures is expected for race 2 and this could change the balance of all the teams.
