Fassi Malaysian Round, Race 1. It was a positive Saturday for Alex Lowes, the only rider from the Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team present this weekend in Malaysia, at the Sepang International Circuit: the sensational second position in qualifying was added to an excellent fifth place in the race, the his best result of the season.

The Englishman got off to a very good start at the start and was the first to take the lead, only to then go wide and leave the solo lead to Tom Sykes: due to this error he lost positions, dropping down to ninth place, when on the sixth lap he made a good recovery up to fifth place, which earned him important points in the championship, where he is now eighth with 70 points.
Lowes maintained a very competitive pace and this is good news for Yamaha which has been suffering a lot in races since the start of the season: the English rider actually missed out on fourth place by less than a second.

alex lowes at the end of the race he was understandably very happy: “It was a good day and a good race for me in Sepang, obviously, where I achieved my best result of the year so far and my best qualifying. It was nice to dominate the race, I had a great start and it's nice to ride the YZF-R1 in front of everyone. We deserve to be faster every week, so we need to keep working. We made some improvements in pace and I was able to recover fifth place. I wanted to finish fourth, but I couldn't! I pushed a little too hard to stay with Chaz at the start and I made a mistake,” explained Alex. “But if we are able to make some changes to the bike ahead of tomorrow, to improve the feeling in some areas, I think we could fight for the podium. Maybe it's a little too early, but today overall I felt good, I had fun and I hope I can get another concrete result for Sunday."
