Fassi Malaysian Round. Torrid conditions in Malaysia in the first race of this sixth round of the 2016 World Superbike Championship: the Althea Racing team riders had mixed fortunes, with Jordi Torres repeating his best race result this season, fourth place in Imola, while Markus Reiterberger he was forced to retire.

During the 12th lap, while he was fighting with his teammate for fourth position, his BMW S1000 RR suffered a technical problem, currently being examined by the engineers, which forced the German driver to interrupt his race.
Torres, on the other hand, started from eighth position and was the author of a good comeback after some errors at the start which relegated him to tenth position, and fought until the end with Alex Lowes for fourth place, which he achieved with less than a second ahead of the Yamaha Englishman under the checkered flag.
The Spaniard did well to manage tire wear in the final laps and gave the team another excellent placing.

“In the end the race went well, we worked in practice to have a good pace, and it seems that the strategy worked. We needed to drive calmly at the beginning, to save the tire as much as possible” – he commented Jordi Torres – “I think I managed the situation well, also because in the end I was able to defend myself from Lowes, despite a tire that was practically destroyed. I'm sorry about Markus. I was hoping to be able to have a good fight 'at Althea BMW' in the final laps. However, we showed that we are both strong here in Sepang. We have acquired a lot of information that we will need for tomorrow. The riders in front are still far away and my objective is therefore to try to close this gap in tomorrow's race.”

“My start wasn't bad, but I lost ground in the first laps. I wanted to save the rear tire in the initial phase but after 5 laps I felt I could push and I had a very good pace” – he said Markus Reiterberger -“I got to fourth position but then, unexpectedly, my bike turned off. I tried to turn it on, hoping I could continue and get some points, but it happened once again and I had to retire. I was sorry for what happened but, at the same time, I feel confident because we had a fast race and found some good solutions for the bike. I hope that the conditions will be similar tomorrow too, to allow us to have a good race.”
