Cal Crutchlow, in his last weekend in Superbike before moving to MotoGP with the Yamaha Tech 3 team, took the victory in Race 1 at Magny Cours, dominating the race which ended with a 3 seconds lead over Leon Haslam who was second at the finish line. The British rider, reigning Supersport world champion, soon overtook Max Biaggi from pole position to take first place, flying towards his third victory of the season and of his career in Superbikes.

Behind the unapproachable Crutchlow, vice-world champion Leon Haslam finished second with the Suzuki of the Alstare team, who overtook Max Biaggi on the last lap with the "Corsaro" also forced to widen the trajectory, opening the doors to the third place went to Carlos Checa (Ducati Althea Racing).

Another RSV2010 driven by Jakub Smrz of the private Pata B&G team finished behind the 4 world champion, with Aprilia thus celebrating the conquest of the manufacturers' title with one heat to spare against Ducati and Suzuki.

Michel Fabrizio follows in the standings, sixth ahead of teammate Noriyuki Haga, the official Kawasaki of Tom Sykes, Shane Byrne and the Italians Luca Scassa and Lorenzo Lanzi with the private Ducatis of the Supersonic and DFX teams.
