The second qualifying round of the Superbike at Phillip Island (stage of the first race of 2013) saw Michel Fabrizio, rider of the Team Red Devils Roma, once again excel. The Roman rider, despite a technical problem with his RSV4, managed to lap in 1'30"387, a time obtained at the end of the session.

Behind him was Leon Camier's Suzuki. The British rider, who is more than 10 km/h behind Aprilia and BMW on the straight, was the author of a good session, closing less than four tenths behind Fabrizio with a time of 1'30.727.

Camier preceded the Kawasaki ZX-10R of the injured Tom Sykes (wrist problems), the official Aprilia of Eugene Laverty and the BMW of our Marco Melandri, still struggling with shoulder problems and in doubt about maintaining the distance of the race, even if compared to the tests the situation seems to have improved.

The former Yamaha rider placed himself behind the second official Aprilia, that of Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli and the first Honda, the CBR1000RR of British Leon Haslam. Closing out the Top Ten are Carlos Checa's Ducati 1199 Panigale, victim of a bad high-side yesterday in the first free practice sessions and still appearing to be improving, and Davide Giugliano, Checa's former team-mate and this year still with Team Althea but in riding the Aprilia RSV4 Factory. Ayrton Badovinim did not take part in the session with the second Ducati of Team Alstare, still recovering after the crash in the tests and yesterday. Jules Cluzel also stopped in the pits with the second Suzuki. The French rider had a mechanical problem with his Suzuki GSX-R1000 and the five crashes he had in the tests should not be forgotten.
