Superbike – Qualifying 1 Valencia – Checa precedes Smrz, Biaggi is 4th
Ducati dominates in the first qualifying sessions of the third round of the Superbike World Championship being held in Valencia. Carlos Checa on the Team Althea Ducati set the best time ahead of Smrz and Byrne. Three Ducatis therefore in the lead (even if they are not those of the official team of Fabrizio and Haga) ahead of Max Biaggi's Aprilia. The Roman fresh from the successes of Portimao precedes the leader Leon Haslam and the aforementioned Michel Fabrizio and Noriyuki Haga.
The first Yamaha is that of Cal Crutchlow, ninth and ahead of the excellent Leon Camier on the Aprilia, Silvain Guintoli and his teammate and former MotoGP rider James Toseland. The first Honda is only thirteenth with Jonathan Rea, the Brit precedes Troy Corser's BMW, Luca Scassa's Ducati and Max Neukirchner's Honda CBR1000RR.
