SBK, Prosecco DOC Portuguese Round, Race2: more and more Jonathan Rea
Van der Mark and Marco Melandri complete the podium. Cade Davies
With the checkered flag of Race 2, the curtain also falls on the tenth round of the season, at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimao.
The weekend was dominated far and wide by Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team) who also triumphed in the second race and with Tom Sykes out of the game and Chaz Davies' crash, he brought his lead in the standings to +120 over the second and +135 on the third.
Behind him, but six seconds behind, we find Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) on his first podium with Yamaha.
Truly a great satisfaction for him who will be called upon to replace Valentino Rossi in Aragon within a week.
Another third place for Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) who repeats the result of Race1 and leaves Portugal with a nice haul of podiums.
Behind him, Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia) crossed the finish line, in turn followed by the Spaniard Jordi Torres (Althea BMW Racing Team).
The top 10 was completed by Lorenzo Savadori (Milwaukee Aprilia), Leandro Mercado (IODARacing), Anthony West (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing), Ayrton Badovini (Grillini Racing Team) and Takumi Takahashi (Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team).
A bad crash saw Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) around halfway through the race at turn 13, with Xavi Fores (BARNI Racing Team) slipping but managing to finish the race in thirteenth place.
The protagonists of the weekend will remain in Portimao for the Pirelli test day, scheduled for tomorrow, Monday 18 September.
The Championship will return in two weeks to Magny Cours, France.
