After a six-week summer break, the riders are preparing to face the five championship rounds still to be contested, in which Tom Sykes is called upon to take on the difficult task of taking the title from Jonathan Rea.

The public's support, however, will be aimed above all at the two home riders: Stefan Bradl (Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team), and Markus Reiterberger, who BMW is fielding in a satellite team, due to an internal battle with Althea.
The German returns to WSBK after his sensational retirement last year after just a few races, officially due to "physical problems".

The fiercest fight, however, will be the one for victory: Jonathan Rea is determined to close the world championship as soon as possible, with Tom Sykes who on the contrary wants to prolong it and attempt a feat that at the moment seems almost impossible considering the 59 points gap.

The Northern Irishman arrives at the event also strengthened by the results of the tests carried out here a few weeks ago, which have allowed him to already define the set up of his Ninja.
Last year he won Race 2 in the wet, after crashing in the first.

He won't stand by and watch Ducati triumph here in 2016 with Chaz Davies in Race 1: the Welshman has completed his recovery from the injury he suffered at Misano, and hopes to replicate the incredible second part of the championship he had last year, in which he won seven of the eight races to be played.

Marco Melandri will officially debut on the Lausitzring track, but after the summer test in July, and he is ready to fight: it will be interesting to see how quickly he adapts to the circuit with the Panigale.

Fresh from Suzuki's 8 Hours victory, Alex Lowes (official Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Team) is aiming to increase his tally of podiums for the season, currently two podiums, and close the gap to Kawasaki and Ducati together with his teammate Michael van der Mark .

Leon Camier (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) has had a difficult season so far but has worked hard on the Italian bike, securing the top 6 as his best result and is aiming to improve in Germany, where last year he finished both races in the top five positions.

Jordi Torres (Althea BMW Racing Team) after the good performance he showed in Misano, hopes to be able to fight at the top of the standings, considering the great performance he had here in 2016, on a track that is BMW's home track.

Eugene Laverty (Milwaukee Aprilia) has so far ridden well over the problems encountered with the bike and hopes to make a good start to this second part of the season in WorldSBK.

Finally, there is news from the Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team which has decided to field, currently officially only for this round, Davide Giugliano in place of the late Nicky Hayden.
The Roman took part in the tests at the Lausitzring, giving the team much appreciated ideas: it will be interesting to see how he will behave with a bike still in the full development phase like the new CBR.

A truly exciting Prosecco DOC German Round promises to be on: Friday with the two free practices.
