SBK GP Phillip Island Yamaha – Andrea Locatelli crashed at the end of Race 2 of the Australian Grand Prix, first stage of the 2024 World SBK Championship, in second position.

Race 2 for the Italian driver ended in the worst possible way. The “Loka” had shown great pace and potential during the race. Right at the end when he was fighting for the victory he was the victim of a mistake.

Statements Andrea Locatelli GP Phillip Island Superbike

“The sensations in Race 2 were fantastic, I think that in the end this weekend we did a really good job and never made any mistakes. Unfortunately we are checking the data and we still don't know what the reason was but the bike was in neutral – so then I was wide and when I tried to put the gear back in I made a mistake and lost the rear. It's a real shame because everything was working well and it was only the last lap and we were fighting for the race win. It seems a bit like a bad dream, but at the same time I want to say thanks to Yamaha and the team because we worked well over the weekend – we were fast in every condition and in every session up front – so this is definitely something good for us and let's see what we can do in the next race. We will be on track for two days of testing before the Barcelona round, we need to improve a little more but the confidence on my R1 is good, so let's see what we can do."
