SBK French GP Magny-Cours Kawasaki – Jonathan Rea finished Race 1 of the French Grand Prix, ninth stage of the 2023 world championship, in third position.
The British driver started from the second row, made a small mistake shortly after at the start, but managed to set a pace that allowed him to get onto the podium.

“In Superpole I was slowed down while using my second qualifying tire in the last sector. The start went well, but I risked crashing at turn five on the first lap. Now my knee hurts because I dug my knee in so hard that the suit pulled around my knee. This created a kind of burn on the skin. I was lucky enough to stay. Then I made other mistakes, pushing the front in an attempt to recover. When I talked about Alex and BMWs I could try to go with Michael and Toprak. I gained a few tenths, but I wasn't really gaining them back. Then in the last part of the race they managed to keep the pace and I dropped below 1'38. I struggled to turn the bike as the grip reduced and I couldn't load the front. So there are some areas we need to improve for tomorrow."
