SBK | Geico US Round, Race2: solid weekend for Yamaha
Lowes and Van der Mark finish the race close to the podium
Even though the podium was not achieved this time, the Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team also closed the second race of the Geico US Round, which took place in Laguna Seca, very well: Alex Lowes and Michael van der Mark crossed the finish line in fourth and fifth respectively position, close to the top three.
The home round at Donington Park seems to have reinvigorated Lowes: with today he has finished in the top five in six consecutive races, and he is getting dangerously close to Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) in the standings.
“Before this weekend I would have dreamed of getting a third and fourth place, in the past we have had difficulties on this track. In Race 2 I felt very strong, but I wasn't quick enough to overtake Michael and then attack Eugene. It was a good race, I enjoyed the battles” – he said alex lowes – “Laguna Seca is a fun track, but it's not easy to overtake, so I had to try different lines. I had found an opportunity, but then I lost half a second because there wasn't enough space."
Today's fourth position is the result of a nice duel with his teammate, who Lowes overtook with a great overtaking move at turn 8: “I enjoyed the duel and I'm happy with fourth place, but I think my pace was better than what we have seen” – admits Lowes – “But this track is very complicated, so getting on the podium here is a good omen for the rest of the year. I think we can expect to fight every weekend."
