“Pole, fastest lap, second place…I have all the trophies except the most important one!” – commented Chaz Davies hotly.

The Ducati rider actually lacked just the decisive spark to complete a perfect day at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
However, the reigning champion was superior to Davies not only for the decisive overtaking but for the way he hammered out consistent times until he created an unbridgeable gap for his opponent.

However, today's performance was similar to those in the early stages of the season: Davies was once again the man to beat for the first time in many rounds.

“I did everything I could” -Admits Davies after the race – “I tried to stay with Johnny in the last laps, but I didn't have the pace to keep up with him. I lost a tenth here, another there... I thought about not making mistakes in the hope that he would make some mistakes. He committed a couple at the Corkscrew, but I wasn't close enough to close the gap."

“I tried to escape at the beginning. I was surprised to see the time of 1'23.0. With these temperatures, it's a really fast lap in Laguna” – said Davies commenting on the first laps.

Davies says that Race 2 will be completely different given that he will start from the third row: "Overtaking in Laguna is one of the most complicated things and starting from the third row won't be easy, but in the past we've managed to recover, I'm sure we'll be able to do it tomorrow too."
