La Superbike Commission composed of Rezsö Bulcsu (FIM CCR Director), Takanao Tsubouchi (MSMA Representative), Steve Aeschlimann, Fabio Muner, Charles Hennekam, Scott Smart and Paul Duparc (FIM), in the presence of Daniel Carrera (WorldSBK Executive Director) and Gregorio Lavilla (WorldSBK Sporting Department Director), announced that it has made some changes to the 2018 regulations of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship and the FIM Supersport World Championship.

In essence, the changes concern the program of the free practice sessions which have been revised, even in the timetables, to clarify the restrictions applied: every rider who took part in the timed test sessions (in WorldSBK and WorldSSP) and was unable to complete clocking a time within 107% of the time set by the fastest driver will start the race from the back of the starting grid.
In the event of a delayed start, the "quick restart" procedure will automatically be triggered, i.e. only one mechanic and only one minute of waiting on the line.

The Superbike Commission also approved a series of clarifications regarding the "limitation of engine speed", which is the most radical innovation for 2018.
In particular we talk about "Balancing calculator" and "concession parts" (with the price cap, in order to make all the components available to all the teams, at a regulated price), i.e. the parts that each manufacturer must make available at a indicated by the promoter, identical to those mounted on all motorbikes of the same brand.
The use of aerodynamic components (for example "wings") will only be permitted if mounted on the approved model sold in Europe, Japan and North America.
Furthermore, it was agreed that the electronic suspension cannot be used, even if present on the approved model.
